Where Was Jillian Michaels Born?
Los Angeles, California is the birthplace of Jillian Michaels, she was born on February 18, 1974.
Jillian A Brief Childhood
Jillian was raised mostly by her mother, who was a psychotherapist and grew up in Santa Monica, Ca. Jillian has said that her childhood was traumatic and that she suffered from night terrors and that at the age of five she was seeing a therapist.
Jillian was twelve when her parents divorced and she had trouble dealing with the divorce, and has had no contact with her father since then. She began to gain weight and by the time she was twelve she weighed 175 pounds and was only 5’2”. Her self-esteem suffered and she was teased and made fun of by other kids while at school.
Jillian’s mother enrolled her in martial arts classes when she was fourteen and she lost the weight and re-gained her self-esteem. Martial arts taught her to respect herself and to be disciplined; something that she needed when her mother kicked her out of the house when she was only seventeen.
Success In Adulthood
Jillian put herself through college by bartending and working as a personal trainer. Unhappy with her job with a talent agency in Los Angeles; Jillian quit her job and began working as a personal trainer full time, a job that she loved. Jillian was twenty-eight when she opened Sky Sport & Spa in 2002 in prestigious Beverly Hills, CA.
Jillian first entered the public’s eye in 2004 when she was cast to appear as one of the personal trainers on The Biggest Loser, NBC’s intense weight loss reality TV show. Jillian was tough on the contestants, using fear as a motivator but her methods worked, and she got results. She was on the show for two years and then left for a year, coming back to the show in 2007 and she remained on the show until 2011. Jillian returned to the show for its 14th season in 2012.
Jillian was also a personal trainer on the Australian version of the show, which ran from 2006-2008.
NBC gave Jillian her own TV show, Losing It With Jillian, in 2010. Eight episode of the show were filmed and aired, where Jillian would spend a week with a family, helping them lose weight and learn healthier lifestyle choices.
CBS asked her to co-host their show The Doctors but she left the show mid-season.
From 2006 to 2009, Jillian had her own weekly radio show on KFI 640AM in Los Angeles. She currently has a podcast that goes out weekly, The Jillian Michaels Show, released through iTunes. Her podcast won the Best New Audio Podcast award by Apple in 2011.
Jillian released her first DVD in 2005 and since then she has released at least fifteen DVDs. She is a published author of five very successful books about fitness and nutrition and at least two of her books are New York Times Best Sellers.
Expanding her media empire even further, Jillian began to expand into video games. Jillian Michael’s Fitness Ultimatum 2009 and Fitness Ultimatum 2010 were released on the Wii. She then released two similar fitness games for the Xbox 306. Video games allowed her to reach a broader audience, and allow for a uniquely different type of program.
Jillian used her knowledge and experience to put together a 90-day fitness program that combines daily training plus nutrition and diet help; Body Revolution was released in 2012 and has been met with enthusiasm.
